ArchiCAD 25: A New Era in Architecture Software

The latest version of ArchiCAD 25 has recently been released, boasting improved performance and compatibility with Windows XP. However, the software's license server has been causing constant issues for students seeking help to access the demo-version in our classroom-software setup.

As an architecture student, I have had the privilege of using ESA PT, a specialized CAD application at our school. Although it didn't affect me personally since I switched to a non-commercial job before reaching the Return-Of-Investment point, I can understand the frustration that comes with dealing with these kinds of issues.

The use of protective measures such as FlexLM and cdilla has become increasingly problematic for us engineers who invest in expensive tools to get our jobs done. As legal users of these software, we are often the ones who suffer the most from these limitations. In contrast, popular software developers seem to have an edge when it comes to addressing bugs before official releases.

In some cases, even complex software licenses can be bypassed using unique registration keys tied to a single computer. Hardware locks can also be easily circumvented. Furthermore, demo-versions with temporary full functionality can often be converted into full versions. Unfortunately, illegal copies of almost every program on the planet are readily available.

As a concerned user, I have some remarks about this issue. While I will not provide links to any illegal software or tools, I believe it's essential for users to be aware of these problems and to prioritize using legal software whenever possible. In my current academic environment, we adhere to a strict policy of only using licensed software, although we do receive discounts.

I personally use ArchiCAD 25, which I paid a substantial amount for (about 1.5 times the American price). I want to emphasize that I am not advocating piracy in any way and believe it's crucial for developers to find effective solutions to these issues.
